Coronavirus visitor guidance

Happy New Year and a warm welcome to Orchard House in 2022. It is disappointing to see that it is likely that coronavirus is likely to be around for some time longer in our country and we all must continue with our new ways of living and working. We are truly thankful that since the outbreak started in 2019 none of our residents has contracted the virus and we are working hard to ensure everyone’s safety going forward.

Our care team have been doing all they can to maximise infection control measures in the home and have to undertake frequent testing themselves. We have an adequate supply of both test kits and PPE within the home and our dedicated Infection Prevention and Control Champion, Suzanne, ensures that cleaning protocols are meticulously implemented, staff training is up to date and regular IPC audits are completed.

Where possible, our home will remain open for admissions, whether you need long-term care, a respite stay this winter, or would like to take advantage of our popular day care provision. As the situation could change very quickly, we recommend you phone before any proposed visit to look around the home.

Alternatively, to have a virtual tour of the home please click here….

Our managers are also available to speak to you via WhatsApp or FaceTime if you prefer.

Open Day & Day Care re launch

After a long year in lockdown we are excited to re-launch our day care service. With all the care and support you need to enjoy a day out from your own four walls, Orchard House is the perfect place for those who are socially isolated or lonely.

Our ever changing programme of activities means there is always something to get stuck into, or if you prefer to sit back and relax our comfy lounge and pretty courtyard are just the tonic. Catch up with old friends or come and make new ones.

On Thursday 1st July, 10- 3pm we are hosting an ‘open house’, come and look around, meet the team and enjoy live entertainment and refreshments. We look forward to meeting you!

Now is a great time for carers to plan a staycation

If you are planning a staycation as lockdown restrictions are being lifted because you are ready for a break from your caring role, you will want to ensure that the person you care for has an extra special break too.

At Orchard House our lovely respite rooms have a real holiday feel, with all the comfort you would expect from a luxury break. Our breaks are all-inclusive, meaning that everyone is welcome to join in the daily activities in our wellbeing hub.

With just six beds we really get to know the people we support and find out what’s important to them. With a ratio of one carer to every two residents, it’s no surprise that many of our residents keep returning for another stay. Don’t take our word for it, you can hear what some of our residents, their families and our staff have to say about us on our welcome video here

Sue & Gordon

Gordon and Sue shared the challenges they faced during lockdown:

It’s been unbelievably difficult for people who have been supporting family members with dementia during lockdown. For many of them daycare was a lifeline each week when they had time to themselves, to relax and pick up a little of their own lives and recharge their batteries. It has been upsetting for us to know how many of the people we supported through day care have been impacted by lockdown.

Sue and Gordon were one of many families who were hit hard by the closure of our day care service and they shared their experience with the Alzheimer’s Society to help shine a spotlight on the demands faced by ordinary people in extraordinary times. You can hear their story here

With the many safety measures we have put in place and the assurance of the vaccination programme being comprehensively rolled out now we are thrilled to see Sue and many of our other visitors once again.
