Respite Care

Respite Breaks & Short Stays

For those times when a longer break is needed

Launched in 2019, our six-bed respite suite is the perfect environment, providing luxurious accommodation with an emphasis on delivering a holiday experience for the people who stay with us. Like our day care services, respite stays can also be a beneficial break for carers, who can enjoy some downtime themselves to recharge their batteries, confident in the knowledge that the person they support is being well looked after in a supportive and safe environment.

For too long, respite care has been based on finding an empty bed in a nursing home when a break is needed. At Orchard House, our innovative system and first-class care and accommodation enable you to plan a break at a time that suits you. Our respite rooms are booked just like a hotel, giving you the flexibility to choose the right care at the right time.

Whether you’re looking for a holiday yourself or if the person you support needs some time to convalesce on discharge from the hospital, or following an illness or injury, we can meet your needs. Our close links with other healthcare professionals, such as occupational therapists, physiotherapists, and community nurses promote a tailored approach to recovery following illness or surgery.

A Person-Centred Approach

At Orchard House, we pride ourselves on our person-centred approach to care. We’re a small, family-operated care home and believe that every resident should be treated like our own family. Prior to admission, our registered manager will meet with you and the person you support to assess their care needs and to get to know them. This enables us to create a person-centred care plan that lists their specific care needs as well as their likes and dislikes. This person-centred approach helps residents quickly settle into their home-from-home and ensures that their preferences are respected.

Our 24-hour care ensures that our residents’ needs are supported and that they are kept safe. We use state-of-the-art software to monitor the care our residents are receiving, which not only ensures that nothing ever slips through the cracks, but also enables us to easily share important information, messages and photos with you. We promote the mobility, independence, and wellbeing of our residents by inviting them to participate in activities with our day care visitors. To find out more about the benefits of therapeutic activities and socialising, please visit our day care section.

    Moving to Long-Term Care

Moving to long-term care is a big decision and quite literally life-changing for everyone involved. A respite break can be the perfect opportunity of sampling what life is like at Orchard House and can help to ease the transition from the family home into long-term care, as the person you care for will already be familiar and feel comfortable with our environment, staff and facilities. Furthermore, having cared for them previously, our team will have a deep understanding of the resident’s needs and preferences, which will help them settle in even more quickly.

    Assessment of needs

All potential residents must have a comprehensive assessment of their care needs prior to admission to ensure that we can offer the level of support they require. Part of this process is finding out what is important to them and their daily routine so that we can provide person-centred care. To find out more about the assessment of needs process, please visit our FAQ section.

    Fees & contract

At Orchard House, there are no unpleasant surprises hiding in the small print. While prices may vary depending on individual needs, we want to be transparent with you from the outset by showing you how we charge for the services we provide and what’s included in our contract.
